In veterinary clinical practice, anesthesia machines are crucial equipment for surgery and invasive procedures, and their standardized use directly determines the safety of anesthesia for the pet. Mastering the correct operating procedures can minimize anesthetic risks and safeguard the pet's treatment.
Preoperative preparation: laying a solid foundation for anesthesia safety:
Preoperative preparation is the first step in avoiding anesthesia complications, requiring a comprehensive check of the equipment and the pet's condition.
First, verify the core components of the Veterinary Anesthesia Machines, checking that the gas supply pressure is stable, the oxygen flow meter and vaporizer are functioning properly, and ensuring the carbon dioxide absorbent is effective and free from moisture and clumping.
Then, select the appropriate size breathing bag and tubing based on the pet's weight (suitable range 0.8-120kg), connect them, and perform a leak test. Simultaneously, confirm that the equipment's alarm functions are working properly, and prepare emergency medications and intubation equipment.
Intraoperative procedures: precise control and continuous monitoring
Intraoperative procedures require precise parameter control and real-time monitoring to avoid risks arising from improper operation.
After successful anesthesia induction and intubation, connect the Veterinary Anesthesia Machines. Adjust the ventilation mode (VCV, PCV, etc.) according to the surgical type, gradually regulating oxygen concentration (21%-100%), respiratory rate (1-100 bpm), and tidal volume to ensure stable airway pressure.
Monitor EtCO₂ waveform, airway pressure, and other indicators throughout the procedure, observe the pet's respiratory status, adjust the depth of anesthesia promptly, maintain the absorption canister temperature at 32-42℃, and prevent tubing bending or dislodgement.
Postoperative management: Standardized finishing procedures and equipment maintenance
Proper postoperative operation and equipment maintenance ensure the pet's recovery and extend the equipment's lifespan.
After surgery, immediately shut off the vaporizer and continue oxygen supply until the pet regains spontaneous breathing and consciousness. Extubate and observe for 10-15 minutes to confirm no abnormalities.
Then clean and disinfect the anesthesia machine, replace the carbon dioxide absorbent, wipe the machine body and tubing, and return it to its proper place. Record equipment usage and alarm information, and perform regular calibration and performance testing.
Precautions: Avoid common operational risks
Operators must undergo professional training and be familiar with equipment parameters and operating procedures; unauthorized operation is strictly prohibited. Before using the equipment, ensure it is fault-free. If an alarm occurs during use, immediately investigate and resolve the cause. Regularly maintain the equipment to prevent safety hazards caused by aging components or leaks, ensuring long-term stable operation.
